What is Wines & Woofs?
Wines & Woofs is about slowing down and appreciating the simple moments of love and joy that we find in our day-to-day lives. I aim to create a community that helps make wine more approachable and fun to drink (because let’s be honest, selecting wine is hard), provide insight on where to enjoy incredible wines with your favorite woof, as well as creating a space that inspires curiosity and adventure.
In my opinion, there are no bad days when you combine a happy dog and an amazing glass of wine.
What can you expect?
You can expect pairings of wine with dogs to pet! I’ll try my best to match the personality of the wine to the stereotypical personality of a particular dog breed— however, over time, and as this community grows, I would like to pair your dog and their personality with their own wine varietal, producer, and vintage.
Also, I will be using this as a space to practice and publish my art in addition to talking about the arts and whatever else piques my curiosity.
How did this start?
Wines & Woofs originally started as an idea back in 2016 as I wandered around San Francisco with my Belgian Shepherd Malinois, Katara. Then in the spring of 2020, pairing wines with dogs to pet became a creative outlet during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Between 2022 and 2023, I studied and passed both the introductory and certified sommelier exams through the Court of Master Sommeliers, as well as became a Northwest Wine Appellation Specialist (think Pacific Northwest USA). In 2024, I passed the Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level 3 exam with Merit.
The journey to pass these courses led to a deeper appreciation for the art of wine making, an openness to try all sorts of wines I never even knew about, and an interest in wine history (you guys, there are some wild stories out there).
Who’s behind this?
I’m Kirsten, the creator and author of Wines & Woofs. I am a wine consultant, producer and screenwriter at Seawolf Films, and artist based in Park City, Utah.
I’m also the kind of person who literally needs to stop and pet every single dog I see.
